Deferred PaymentsDeferred Payments:
For those who qualify for Deferred Payment of their Summer Taxes, applications are now available at the Nelson Township Treasurer's office. Filing of this form is voluntary. However, your tax due date will not be extended unless it is certified each year with the Township Treasurer by September 14. NOTE: The State of Michigan has increased the qualify amount to $40,000. Qualifications: A. Household income for the preceding calendar year did not exceed $40,000 and you must qualify for the deferment provided in the General Property Tax Act as noted: Senior Citizen (62 years old), Paraplegic, Quadriplegic, Blind, Eligible Service person, Veteran or Widow, Totally and Permanently Disabled. B. Agricultural: You own the property, which is classified as an agricultural real property, and the gross receipts of agricultural or horticultural operations in the previous year (or average gross receipts for such operations in the previous three years) is not less than your household income for the preceding calendar year. In other words, your farm income was greater than your income from other employment. |
